What breakfast really keeps you going until lunch?

I can't be doing with silly little bowls of airy cereal like rice crispies - you're hungry again 20 minutes after you've eaten them!

I do like eggs, but not everyday.

Is there such a thing as a quick breakfast that keeps you feeling full for more than a couple of hours?!

scrambled egg followed by a bowl of fresh pineapple, mango, rasberries, and large dollop of greek youghurt, with walnuts on top....

MoaningMajestyReignsAgain · 07/06/2012 23:38

A bacon and philly cinnamon and raisin bagel is pretty filling.

Or a snickers. No idea, I am always starving by about 1030am Grin

Own brand Shreddies plus a banana seem to last well for the children though - DH has a big bowl of Dorset muesli with banana and doesn't snack the bastard

yellowraincoat · 07/06/2012 23:38

Who the hell has time to make eggs in the morning?!

A banana and a pastry, a juice and a coffee. You can eat it as you go and it fills you up.

tittytittyhanghang · 07/06/2012 23:39

porridge, a big steaming bowl of porridge with a dollop of maple syrup, or if i cba, one of the quakers cheating porridge sachets Grin

Pollykitten · 07/06/2012 23:39

I have this weird concoction.... puffed oats, milled flax-seed, yoghurt, blueberries and a dash of milk.... might have to throw in a couple of oatcakes at about 11.45...

stressheaderic · 07/06/2012 23:41

Ready Brek always fills me up. Or if I get up late, 2 bananas in the car on the way to work.

supernannyisace · 07/06/2012 23:42

Eggs do it for me.

Also like fruit with yoghurt.

If in a rush then a slice of toast with peanut butter and jam. yum!

bit of protein in all of those - that is what keeps you full apparently.

TheNewandImprovedMrsHollywood · 07/06/2012 23:45

Mmmm, the bacon and Philly bagel sounds good. But time-wise, will have to be a weekend thing.

I do like porridge - but not in the summer, really.

I think I'll have to try that mix, Polly. It sounds good - and I do keep meaning to eat flaxseed!

Thanks all - keep 'em coming!

Lizi's granola works for me! Low GI apparently.

cheeseandmushroomtoastie · 07/06/2012 23:47

I put my eggs onto boil then get in the shower. When I come back downstairs they're done! And they fill me up. Also special k with the oats n honey.

yellowraincoat · 07/06/2012 23:49

I do not have the coordination for eggs first thing. Neither the cooking nor the eating.

BIWItheBold · 07/06/2012 23:50

Put eggs in pan. Fill with water. Put on hob. Boil for 4 minutes.

Hardly a long time!

FunnysInLaJardin · 07/06/2012 23:55

porridge or toast HTH Grin or poached eggs on toast at the weekends with coffee for both DS1 and me. He loves coffee, what 6yo boy loves coffee? This am. he proclaimed that the cup I had made him was the best coffee he had ever tasted. He is a freak

yellowraincoat · 07/06/2012 23:56

But it's not as if you can then just ram the eggs straight down your gullet. They are boiling hot. You need to peel them. You need to eat them with a spoon or similar.

First thing in the morning, I need simple and quick. Eggs would be simply impossible.

FunnysInLaJardin · 07/06/2012 23:56

for the summer a pot of yoghurt mixed with muesli and fresh raspberries and loads of Canderel

FunnysInLaJardin · 07/06/2012 23:57

eggs are for the weekend, no question. Weekdays its whatever you can make at you desk/quickly

gingerpig · 08/06/2012 00:01

coffee, muesli and banana. has to be quick and easy for me.

flatpackhamster · 08/06/2012 08:08

Have a German breakfast. Some good dark bread, some butter, and a couple of different cheeses and cold meats.

QuintessentialShadows · 08/06/2012 08:40

The thing with egg, you dont need to watch them boil....

Meglet · 08/06/2012 08:42

Macdonalds. I'd get them delivered if I could. The huge amount of carbs and sugar seems to work for my body.

Granola is nice too. Even then I tend to snack all morning.

Trills · 08/06/2012 08:44

Ugh.

I can rarely face food first thing in the morning and all of those meals, nice as they may be, sound like a horrific thing to "ram down your gullet" in between waking and leaving the house.

smokinaces · 08/06/2012 08:45

I mix two eggs in a plastic bowl with a tomato chopped up and butter. Stick it Jm the microwave for two minutes. Lo and behold scrambled eggs. Takes no longer to make or eat than a bowl of cereal, have it every morning now before work.

SootySweepandSue · 08/06/2012 08:48

Scrambled in the microwave for me too. If you want to be filled up you need protein not carbs. Sometimes I add salsa or a bit of cheese.

JodieHarshHasALumpyPennie · 08/06/2012 08:50

Now look, this is going to be unpopular with Sensible People, and flies in the face of Accepted Wisdom, but if I have a sturdy breakfast I am starving again come 11.30. Whereas if I just have a skinny cap from the nice girls at Paul next door, I am fine until, oooo, 12.01pm.

However I'm quite fat, so don't go following my advice.

BIWItheBold · 08/06/2012 08:59

Carbs are what will make you start to gnaw your arm off at around 11.00 am. To stop you feeling hungry you need protein and fat. Much more satiating.
