Cherry cake recipe?

For a birthday cake.

I have plain flour, brown sugar, ground almonds, margarine, dried cherries, marzipan, icing sugar, eggs, milk, baking powder, marzipan...

I want to make a nice, traditional style cherry cake, possibly topped with marzipan and iced.

I am not very good at baking Grin and DD1 (age 4) wants to help.

Does anyone have a nice, simple and easy recipe, that will appeal to adults and toddlers alike?

Thanks :)
Does that mean it will be heavy to eat?

Google Delia and cherry cake. Her recipe works for me every time.

I just use a 4/4 recipe (4oz of butter, s-r flour and sugar, 2 eggs) with a spoon of cocoa powder, works fine. Pit the cherries and add big chunks of dark and white chocolate.
