Its DPs birthday in August. We are off camping. DP has a very limited range of interests, camping, cricket, real ale, cake.

I'm going to smuggle a cake to the campsite- anyone by amazing chance ever made a beer cake?

Thanks!

I make this quite often. There's not much beer in it, and you can't really taste it, but the cake is truly yummy. If I haven't enough soured cream I make up the liquid content with beer (from memory a standard UK tub of soured cream is just under the quantity called for in the recipe).

It's a cake to be eaten with coffee, not coffee flavoured, and the resultant cake is very large. I bake it in at least two 2lb loaf tins. the batter is quite runny, but it does work, and the cake will be much admired.

Thanks Molecule- but recipe is is cups and tbh I have no idea of how to do that. Teacup? Coffee mug? WTF is it with americans and their measuring! Whata wrong with grams/oz?? [cross]

Cake sounds fab though, I havent tried a sour cream cake, may look for a UK version...
Thanks

Cake is fab, but I'm afraid you will need to invest in a set of measuring cups as it's really too much faff to keep converting though Delia comes to your rescue. Lakeland sell measuring cups, and I've found them really useful (but what I hate is when the recipe jumps from dry to wet to dry ingredients necessitating in having to wash the cups before the next stage).
