I don't have a recipe but I make a pint of cheese sauce, add herbs and tomato purée then add a mix of fish. The bulk is usually cheap white fish, then salmon, smoked salmon trimmings etc. peel and chop spuds into rings, par cook in water or microwave, layer on top of fish in buttered dish, brush with melted butter. Cook at GM 5 or 6 for 25 mins or so. Sorry for lack of precision, I don't bother with a recipe for something like this. Some put prawns in, some chopped boiled egg, whatever you have. Present with a flourish as something fabulous you created.

What vegetables do you use? I don't really like peas. Was thinking of making fish and chip pie but substituting the peas for spinach and leeks maybe?

I'm not using nappies atm as my DS is 6 in a few weeks.

Do you pour the cheese sauce over the potatoes or do you pour it over the fish/veg and then layer the potato slices on top?

I would put the sauce (already hot) in with the fish with potato on top of that maybe with a bit of cheese grated over at last minute and browned under grill.

A boulangere potato topping made with veg stock would be a healthier alternative so may try that as well.

Gratin Savoyard is also nice and similar to dauphinoise so I think that could work too.

This recipe is my favourite for Dauphinoise but not so good on the hips especially if you use just double cream like i do Grin
