Pine nuts

Are they actually nuts as in 'can't feed to child under 5' or not ?

Sometimes they are called kernels (and so I had assumed they were ok) hence the confusion. Perhaps I am just being daft - any thoughts gratefully received.... TIA

Perhaps have just managed to answer my own question - according to foods standards agency, its only a risk of choking that means you shouldn't give them before 5 rather than allergy related as I had thought.

Would still be interested to know if a pine nut is indeed a nut.

and in fact, according to same website, pine nuts are seeds not nuts so had I done some research first I wouldn't have had to have posted this thread. Have had a nice conversation with myself however .
