Help, I've made a mistake!

I've been making 2 bowl shaped cakes this afternoon and used granulated instead of caster sugar! I don't know why I did it, but I was in a spin trying to get it all done before DS2 woke up and didn't even realise until I looked at the packets (I had just bought both types at the supermarket).

The cakes aren't out of the oven yet, but they look ok. What impact will this error have on the cakes? They are a fairly dense madeira type sponge and will be iced to look like a spaceship with Meg, Mog and Owl flying it (hopefully!). Will it be gritty? It's only family eating and I'm loath to do it all again due to cost of ingredients, time etc. I have to ice it tomorrow, so would need to do it again today if I had to.

I never use caster sugar, it'll be absolutely fine. I doubt you'll notice a difference.

I doubt you'll notice the difference too - I always use granulated becaues it's cheaper, and I'm well known for my baking!

What a relief! That's great, thanks so much for your help.

They are both out now and look ok.
