'olympic' cakes and 'jubilee' cakes

I bought some 'rum baba' moulds the other day - just little 5" ring moulds. Filled with sponge mix, they made 5 little rings which we arranged into the olympic rings, i bought some colours for icing in blue, black, red, yellow and green and they looked fab! Didn't last long tho......

also thought i'd use my silicon ring mould (about 30cm across, uses about an 8-egg mix, will prob do a choc-and-vanilla marble mix)) - if I ice it in white and decorate with pearly beads and jelly-tots, it might look like a crown?

Am going to a Jubilee party so more 'themed' food ideas welcome!

Sounds great! I like the 'rings' idea!

I think I would be doing something flag-wise with strawberries and blueberries on a white background (cheese cake?)

DS has a plan to do a jubilee cake for kids craft comp. He fancies 3 tiers with the top one looking like a throne & union jack icing - I have no idea how we are going to achieve this but mistle may just have got me part way. Grin

can't get much more british than a red, white and blue(berry) trifle

nappyaddict · 31/05/2012 16:29

This is the trifle recipe. That other link didn't work for me. You could mix broken up meringue nests in with the yoghurt and cream mixture.

Also we are doing jubilee jelly but instead of using gold decorations to make them look like crowns we are using strawberries, raspberries and blueberries to make union jacks on the top. We also added fruit to the jelly mix.

Did you take a picture of the rings?

Also this white chocolate berry sponge cake can be adapted so the top looks like a union jack.

Jubilee cake I'd put fruit on top of the cream on all the layers.

More jubilee jellies
