Detox, how easy?

I fancy doing one of these but how easy are they to do. I work full-time on shifts and have a DS (3). Also, how long do you have to do it for.

I did it with a green sludgy liquid which you mix with a big bottle of water (called it bog water)

and it wasn't too difficult I think it was just three days

it was from Holland and Barrett think it was Lighter Life (but not the diet plan) but might be wrong

i do it twice a year. I used Caro; Vordermans this time adn it is great. YOu have to be able to prepare food and tgake it to work. But you can do that and freeze. I felt so much better. I did it for a month

best detox is just to eat red apples for 3 days then finish it with 4 tbsp of olive oil

gscrym · 17/02/2006 18:59

Okay, I've got some lemons for the hot water and lemon in the morning, I've got the body brush for helping the cellulite. Is there anything I need to get to get me going. Will pop into Holland and Barrett tomorrow for supplements.
I was just planning to do fruit, veg and water for the next little while. Is there anything else I need to know?

You will feel like sh*t for about 4 days, and think "ooh I had better stop as I am coming down with the flu and need cheesy wotsits immediately." However on the 5th or 6th day, you will start to feel that perhaps life has some meaning after all.

Beety is the queen of detoxes

My fave is quite simple, got it from a magazine a few years ago. Basically you add one thing every day IYKWIM

Day 1 - Juice fast. 3 large glasses of fruit and/or veg juice (freshly made) plus loads of water.

Day 2 - Juice and fruit. 3 large glasses of juice, plus as much fresh fruit as you want (no bananas)

Day 3 - Juice, Fruit and raw veg. As day 2. but add raw veg, either salad or veggie sticks or whatever. You can have fresh fruit salad for break fast, huge salad dressed with balsamic vinegar or lemon juice at lunch and veggie sticks for supper, plus juices at every meal.

Day 4 - Juice, fruit and cooked or raw veg. You can make a veggie cassorole using passata and loads of fresh veg (no poatotes/starchy veg though)

Day 5 - Juice, Fruit, veg and pulses and or brown rice. Add pulses like chick peas and kidney beans to cassorole, or serve with rice.

Day 6 - Juice, Fruit, Veg, pulses, rice and protien (fish/chicken/eggs if veggie).

Day 7 - As day 6 but with dairy (bio yoghurt etc)

If you don't want a juice fast for a day you can start at day 2, and have another day in teh middle where you add nuts/seeds after the pulses day.

The good thing about this one is that there is no special supplement, expensive ingrediants, foul tasting liquids to drink. But you do need a juicer. I found I had a citrusy juice at breakfast, a carrot or veggie juice at lunch and a berry based juice in teh evening. Or I split the juices and had half mid morn/mid afternoon. Also you can eat AS MUCH as you want of the food, so if you are hungry you just have more fruit or more veggies etc.

Drink hot water and lemon in teh morn, plus loads of water and I added in green/herbal teas. You can buy detox teabags from clipper.

This is a great simple detox whcih I do at least once a year for a weeek

Twiglett, when you say 'finish it', do you mean end your life in despair? No, but seriously, I'm quite interested - you mean have the olive oil at the end of the third day?

gscrym · 17/02/2006 19:30

Crunchie, your one seems to be the one that I could probably do as I've got a juicer sitting in the cupboard, becoming an antique.

Will have a go tomorrow. Have just eaten a huge plate of spag bol as one last lardy meal.

search for edgar cayce and apple .. its a famous detox diet .. and was developed over 60 years ago

Twiglett · 18/02/2006 08:01

although to be fair he was a bit wacko was old edgar cayce

summary of diet

I know about it because it has been advised as a dietary treatment to help people with auto-immune diseases (like arthritis) to help knock them out of flares (the disease flares up and can subside)

Fauve · 18/02/2006 12:12

Thanks Twiglett - given that I've got two prolific apple trees in the garden, it looks like a good detox diet for me, esp since it says do it when apples are in season - I always lose weight then anyway, cos I feel compelled to eat up the apple crop.
