Bean Burgers

Does anyone have a tried and tested recipe for nice bean burgers?

I've had a look on the BBC Good Food site which is my usual go-to for everything, ever, but nothing has taken my fancy.

Ideally nothing too spicy as 11mo DD tends to have whatever we're having.

Neither me nor DP is veggie so no limitations there, I just have an odd craving for a veggie style burger!

Do you know I posted this the other night, went to bed and did my classic totally forget I've done something having slept since!!

Thanks Anarchist that sounds exactly the sort of thing I was after. I think all the recipes I found were too faffy and I just needed someone to point out the bleedin' obvious to me, simple is usually best!

I use tinned aduki (?sp), mash half, leave half whole. Add herbs/spices and mush together, then oven bake.

I found some really nice beanburgers in Tesco today, I don't usually buy ready-made, but having checked the ingredients, they were full of the sort of thing I would have used anyway. They were in the chilled section, with the Tofu pieces etc, but are Tescos own.

1 tin kidney beans,
1 tin borlotti beans
100 gm breadcrumbs
Small carrot grated
3 cloves of garlic crushed
2 tsp ground cumin
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp smoked paprika
Salt & pepper

Drain, rinse and roughly chop beans
Mix all ingredients together in a bowl.
Form into patties
Fry with a little olive oil.

We had these for dinner last night. Smile

I invented a recipe Smile yesterday to use up some sweet potato which worked really well. Can be made in advance and stored in the fridge until ready to use. This produced 7 burgers.

1 medium sweet potato cooked, cooled and mashed
1 tin of kidney beans, roughly mashed, leave some bits for texture
1/2 red pepper cut into small cubes
1/2 onion cut into small cubes
Some grated cheese - I didn't measure this but a small handful at a guess
Cumin, coriander, curry powder and seasoning
Bread crumbs

Mix all the above ingredients together apart from the bread crumbs, if it looks too wet then add more cheese or add some flour/ bread crumbs.

Shape into rounds and coat with bread crumbs.

Set the oven on gas 6 and place an oiled baking tray in for 10 minutes or so before putting the burgers in. When the tray is hot enough, place the burgers onto the tray and bake for 25- 30 minutes turning over half way through.

Serve with potato wedges and salad.

Mine's pretty similar, boogiewoogie. I don't eat wheat, hence the oats:
1 onion
3 cloves garlic
1 tbsp olive oil
1 can kidney beans, drained
1 grated carrot
2-3 tbsp oats
1 egg
Fry onion & garlic in oil till just brown. Combine with other ingredients & mash. Form into 8 patties. Brush with oil & grill.
