Don't say macaroni cheese or spaghetti bolognese!

After months of spitting it out, 11 month old DD2 seems to have decided that she likes pasta. Yay!

So now I am cooking it more often, as the 4 year old also likes it, and I am running out of interesting recipes (if I am faced with cooking macaroni cheese again this week, I will scream!)

We are basically cycling through spaghetti bolognese, spaghetti with olive oil, garlic and parmesan, macaroni cheese, and pasta with bacon, broccoli, tomato and goat's cheese.

More ideas needed! I'd love to try something a bit more unusual and interesting.

Pasta with peas here

I love JO recipes :)

BlackAffronted · 18/05/2012 13:37

the RiverCottage macaroni peas (my kids call it alien pasta!)
Easy cabonara
Hawaiin pasta bake

I can link you to the pasta recipes on my blog if you like.

Ramekin · 18/05/2012 13:45

Ooh, yes please, a link would be great :)

I like the sound of clams, but are they OK for the baby? Mind you we are so far from the sea here they probably cost a fortune...

I really like baked pasta dishes. Jamie Oliver has a good baked canneloni recipe. I also like his lasagna recipe, which uses fresh lasagna sheets, smoked bacon along with the mince and creme fraiche instead of bechamel. Divine and very easy to make. Jamie also has a recipe for a mediaterranean chickenpasta bake is simple - just pieces ofcooked, garlic marinated chicken breast mixed intocookedpasta with a god tomato and basil sauce, cherry tomatoes, tornfshbasil and chunks of buffalo mozarella, then grill on high until bubbling away..

Delia also has a nice veggie lasagne recipe.

This is a nice recipe for bacon and mushroom pasta.

Have you tried making your own pesto? Easy peasy.

Threerogues · 18/05/2012 19:08

I also like Jamie's cauliflower and pasta bake, kids love it.

JulietMontague · 18/05/2012 19:10

Fry chopped red onion and garlic, then add sliced bacon and cook until golden. Add two tins of chopped tomatoes and some finely chopped rosemary. Cool until reduced by half and stir into cooked pasta. Yum Grin

Fake Carbonnara

Fry some lardons/bacon bits and courgette while the pasta is cooking.

Mix a tub of creme fraiche (reduced fat is fine) with parmesan and a generous serving of black pepper.

Drain the pasta and return to the pan, add the lardons, courgettes and creme fraiche. Stir to combine.

You can substitute the bacon with smoked salmon and add mushrooms instead of courgettes

I do a pasta bake thing (not very MN, I know) with smoked mackeral, leeks and creme fraiche

smoky bacon pancetta fried with olive oil, garlic and some chilli flakes, add steamed brocolli. toss some pasta shapes into this and top with parmesan

or fry 2 cloves of garlic in a big knob of butter. add a small tub of 1/2 fat creme fraiche, the zest of a lemon, and a packet of smoked salmon trimmings. serve with lots of parmesan and black pepper.

dearprudence · 18/05/2012 19:21

spinach and ricotta canneloni
courgette carbonara
Mozzarella and parmesan with a tomato and basil sauce - grilled til cheese is all toasty
chorizo with veg/tomato sauce
simple pasta with chopped ham, peas, sweetcorn - perhaps with a bit of pesto
lasagne

(I bloody love pasta, me)

Methe · 18/05/2012 19:23

Clams fine for baby :) You can buy them frozen in lidl for £4.

DanceToTheIslandBeat · 18/05/2012 19:36

Cook pasta, stir on a dollop of soft cheese, dollop of pesto, add chopped ham/peas/sweetcorn.

Jamie's 30 min Jool's pasta is yum.

Tuna, sweetcorn, mayo pasta is lovely with crunchy green salad.

Every so often, I bung tonnes toms/passata, puree, garlic, onions, & whatever suitable veg is around into the slow cooker with a sprinkle of brown sugar. You can then freeze in batches, use it as a sauce in its own, with cheese, whiz it to hide veg, use it as a base for pizzas/bolog etc or add tuna or Bacon etc.

Pasta with red pesto, shredded chicken, sweetcorn, red peppers and toasted breadcrumbs.

Ramekin · 20/05/2012 17:42

Thanks for all the ideas :) Sorry I didn't come back before.

We made the macaroni peas one last night - the girls lapped it up, although I think it suffered a bit from not adding any salt (because of the baby).

spagetti with marmite and a drop of olive oil.

baked cheesey mincy pasta. as dd calls it, and pretty much is what it says. not as rich as spagbol, just a tin of tom mince pasta and cheese baked in oven.

roasted veg, pasta, couple of egg broke on top baked (remain whole) in oven

carbonara

ravioli any filling

tomatoes/chilli based pasta soups

cheese/cream based fish and spagetti

stressedHEmum · 20/05/2012 18:30

Absolute favourite in here is pasta with chick peas.

Cook pasta. meanwhile fry 2 chopped onions with a whole head of chopped garlic in olive oil. Add 1/2 a bag of dried chick peas which you have soaked and cooked. heat through and mix with drained pasta. Add a bit more oil if needed, season well with salt and pepper and top with a little bit of finely grated parmesan.

Pinner35 · 20/05/2012 18:33

This spinach sauce is a winner in our house.

Favourites in my house are....

Pasta with cubes of salmon cooked in a knob of butter, cream, peas & chives

or

Pasta with cubes of chicken cooked in pesto with a bit of cream fraiche chucked in.

TitsalinaBumSquash · 20/05/2012 18:39

What I make for me when I'm home alone in linguini with good olive oil, a tiny bit of chilli, 1 clove of garlic, sauté and mix with cooked pasta and chuck in some fresh parsley. Smile

wheredidiputit · 20/05/2012 18:42

here there are loads on the good food website. I have cooked most of them and not had many complaints from dc.

Iwantcandy · 20/05/2012 18:43

The Jamie Oliver broccoli pasta is gorgeous. Or how about pasta with homemade pesto and sauteed asparagus? Yum

choppychopster · 20/05/2012 18:54

Was going to suggest Bloody Mary Penne (tomato sauce with plenty of garlic, chilli and vodka) but then saw it's for a baby and a 4 year old, so probably not suitable. Grin It is yummy though!

Most of our other favourite pasta dishes are covered above. I also like to do big batches of ragu in the slow cooker using braising steak - much tastier than the usual bolognaise with mince. Freezes well too

Ramekin · 21/05/2012 08:56

Pasta with cubes of salmon cooked in a knob of butter, cream, peas & chives

That sounds absolutely delicious, think I will try that one next.

I'm also particularly intrigued by the marmite one, and the veg pasta with baked eggs on top.
