pork - dates

I got a sainsburys "just cook" piece of pork on sunday, but didn't end up cooking it, went to put it in for dinner tonight and the use by date is 12-2 - it went off the day I got it! Do you think it will be okay to use or don't risk it?

Um, I wouldn't, cos I'm a scaredy-cat about food poisoning. Though if it doesn't smell and looks ok...

I'd take it back tbh. It should have been reduced in price if it was going out of date on the day of purchase. I doubt they'll quibble. Don't think I'd risk using it as it's now Weds, although if it looks and smells ok, then it's probably fine.

I'm normally very cavalier about use-by dates, but I wouldn't chance it with pork.

If it smells ok and you cook it well it will be absolutely fine. Even if it is a tiny but whiffy it is often only the surface juices and a wash often does the trick. I am paranoid about dates on cooked meats and pates etc but cooking will kill any bugs. You hang game after all. Not sure I'd trust and aged turkey though
