Fish recipes that don't *taste* like Fish...

So my DP is an odd bod. After an unfortunate incident with an exP and seafood, he will not eat anything from the sea/water. I LOVE all that kind of stuff and really want to eat more fish. I've convinced him to let me put fish on the menu once a week. His compromise was that the fish dish doesn't taste like fish o_O

This week I'm trying Cajun Salmon with a creamy pasta.

Any other ideas? Does anyone even know what is meant by "doesn't taste like fish" (his answer was "you know, fish taste..." sigh)

I made a caribbean fish pie after a suggestion on here, it was amazing and not overly fishy.

Thanks Black. Was the recipe on here?

I was going to suggest caribbean fish pie, the recipe you linked to is the same as Levi Roots recipe.

Thai fish cakes? Salmon with soy and sesame sauce put on and baked?

twolittlemonkeys · 09/05/2012 17:34

Using a strong sauce helps. My DH doesn't like salmon (the only fish he'll eat is chip shop fish in batter or tinned tuna) but I did salmon in a chilli, lime and ginger dressing with noodles and he liked it - I think the strong flavours in the sauce balanced out/ disguised the fishiness!

I had an aversion to salmon for some years after eating some that had made me ill. I could only eat it if smothered in teryaki sauce (a thickish coating one, not the stuff that's like soy) and grilled. Or BBQ sauce, BBQ'd works well too. Don't know if it makes it 'unfishy' but it makes it edible for me.

The crucial thing in making fish less 'fishy' is that it has to be absolutely fresh. My DD abhors fish but she ate a little of a freshly caught and cooked fish in Greece last year - she said that didn't taste fishy.
