Disgusting tasting tap water

Our tap water tastes absolutely disgusting. We live in a hard water area. I want an easy inexpensive way to rectify this! Any ideas? I have tried a Britax water filter before but the cartridges are so expensive and its such a faff really!
Anyone tried anything else or any recommendations if I do go down the water filter route again.
TIA

Have you tried chilling it? I always keep bottle of tap water in the fridge as it tastes better. Does yours just taste disgusting straight from the tap?

We have one of these fitted into the cold water supply.

Don't know but will watch with interest. We have london water and I'm so used to the chemical taste now I quite like it Hmm but whenever we go on holiday to cornwall the water is disgusting - I have to buy bottled water and struggle even with tea from tap water

We just use sainsbury's own water filters and we too live in a very hard water area - I have to descale the kettle every 2-3 weeks!

The other thing you can do to help with the chemically smell/taste is to keep a large wide necked jug of water in the fridge - the water will smell and taste immeasurably better after two hours standing time. Needs to be wide mecked though as you need the surface area.

We use a Tesco own brand filter and keep it in the fridge. Makes a huge difference to the taste and the state of the kettle.

I don't notice the difference if I don't change the Brita filters every month, they get changed every 3 months around here (we've got a Brita kettle & water jug, crap London water here too).
