Smartie cookies

I'd like to make some for an event at school later this week.

Question is do i just mix the smarties into my cookie mixture or poke them into the biscuits just before i pop them in the oven?

And what happens to the colour?

Poke. Then the colour will be fine. Oherwise it melts of and the smartie's split. Or I am shit at it, I'm not sure which...

I just mix mine in, then some are hidden and some show. I use a giant cookie recipe and mix them in at the end.

For school? Mix them in, it's quicker..

(at the last minute though, otherwise the colour will come off)

I did a combination of both in the end - mixed most of them in then poked 4 in the top of each. Seemed to come out ok so DD took them off to school this morning.
