Thought it would be too rude to brag with a photo on Facebook but will share here instead.
I have a new Kitchen Aid mixer, it is sitting gleaming in my kitchen. I had an unexpected tax rebate and instead of being sensible and putting it towards savings I splurged it all (and a bit more) on this gorgeous beast.
Trouble is I'm now a bit paralysed by the reality and have no idea what to do first? Which cake for the inaugural mixing event?
Is it going to be just as wonderful as I think it will be?

Or this

Ooh, that's pretty Berry.

However, I am not remotely fussed about colour, so in case anyone wants rid of one that unexpectedly clashes with their kitchen, I'm willing to give it a good home...

midori1999 · 05/05/2012 20:05

pOoh, lucky you!

I had coveted one for ages and ages but would never spend the money, so DH suprised me with one at Christmas. He got my sister to pretend her FIL was buying her one and she didn't know which colour to choose, so for ages we exchanged texts about whether the other of us had seen the one on Masterchef etc and liked it, all so DH could find out what colour to get me. Grin I don't know what colour mine is, but it's a sort of dark grey one.

The first thing I made in mine was stollen and I use it all the time now, it's invaluble and I could no longer live without it.

I've had my red Kitchen Aid for about 3years now (v generous C'mas pressie from DH who really coveted one too ;-)). We use ours almost daily; mashed potato/pancakes/cream/cheesecake/cakes....its v versatile. Still works perfectly & looks great. I love it! Live this thread too..love baking!

Although a pillar member of the WoodPussy clan, I am visually Envy of your machine.

blueberryboybait · 06/05/2012 20:33

Mike - I have the Candy Apple red one - it is more bootiful in real life. I often just stroke clean it for no reason at all.

MikeLitoris · 06/05/2012 21:40

My Kenwood is 22 years old, it was a wedding present from my Mum. Hers is way older, well over 30 years, she had it when I was a child. She bakes two cakes and a batch of pastry every week.

You'd need to start a thread asking if the new ones are as good and which model to buy.

Ours are white and utilitarian, the nice silver ones have always been dearer.

Hello I'm back after a busy work day. We have used the KA to make a Nigella choc cake which was good and the icing was fab in the gorgeous green mixer.

Verdict on the cake: a hit. Verdict on the mixer: superb. Even my mother was a little bit Envy when she saw it. And she gave it a little stroke too as it is so lovely.
:)

I do wonder though whether a food processor might have been more useful? Obviously not more gorgeous but just a bit more practical?

I do think though, that as I don't know the difference between them all... there's just no way I could justify buying any of them :(

WEM What do you do?

MIKE I have only just said your name all-in-one-go ShockGrin

MikeLitoris · 07/05/2012 08:24

prayer this is my dilemma. I really want a kitchenaid but really we need a food processor. Ours has died and I've really noticed how much it gets used. This is why I will probably get the prospero. (Nothing at all to do with the price difference)

chipping wem makes beautiful cakes. Have a look at her profile Envy
