Help me with dahl please

Hi I am planning on doing dahl for tea tonight it is now 1.00 pm and we eat about 6ish will it be done by then or should i be soaking them over night? (i know it's ideal to do that) but would it work if i don't? I am
using yellow split peas

I usually make it with red lentils and it takes less than an hour.

Too late now but for futire ref, I'm pretty sure split peas don't need soaking. I usually do it with red lentils and it probably takes around half an hour or so.

No need to soak split peas, but they may be slightly better for you if you do (breaks down more of the phytates so don't inhibit absorbtion) they just take a bit longer than a lentil dahl if you don't. 5 hours is plenty of time!
