Can I make a chicken pie with these ingredients?

I want to try a chicken pie or a chicken & potato pie but it can't have egg, milk or soya in it. I'm sorted for some pastry but not sure about the filling.

I was thinking of just sort of chucking chicken, potato, onion, peas, carrots and some chicken stock or gravy in and hoping for the best. Will that work? Any tips?

As long as you cook the chicken first then yup sounds good to me

Yep, or stir in half a tub of philly cheese and some stock

Yep sounds good to me. I might have a bit of flour on standby for thickening but your ingredients sound fine.

Great, I'm no cook so find it hard to know if things will come together or whether they'll be awful!

I think the chicken stock will be too watery so thought I'd add gravy granules?

Thanks for that, I'll give that a go. Hope it works out or we'll have to have takeaway for dinner tomorrow!

You can use gravy granules to thicken, just reduce any salt added

I like using the following dumpling recipe as pastry

8oz SR flour (sieved with a pinch salt)
4oz Stork and rub together til breadcrumb consistancy
4-5 tablespoons cold water and mix to a dough with a knife
I then rest in the fridge til needed and either pop in as dumplings so they spread out as pastry or roll it out and pop it on leaving resting on top to soak up the juice

If you had agar agar, it is a great thickener that doesnt take away any of the taste.

Is it just milk or all dairy? I use creme fraiche in my chicken pie filling.

Black Its all dairy unfortunately, so no creme fraiche or philly for us.

But I made it today and it was lovely, just chicken stock and some gravy granules and it came out great. I'm going to do it again and i think its going to become one of our regular meals. Just need to find more egg, dairy and soya free family meals now Hmm
