Dried Fruit

A very silly question, indeed!

Can things like raisins, currents, sultanas, etc., get too dried out and be horrible? Can you use them past their "use by" date?

How about other dried fruit?

Dont know the correct answer to this, but I ve used dried fruit far past their use by date. I figure that they are full of sugars which are a natural preservative, isnt it. I have had some go a bit extra dry - would use them in cooking where they would rehydrate a bit. Or pop some in the microwave with little bit of water to plump them up a bit. Fruit plumped up this way in the microwave is l o v e l y while its still a bit warm with a dollop of Greek yoghurt.
