I bought 'Kiplings' Victoria sponge slices and they were a tasteless disappointment, so i tried making my own using victoria sponge recipe in a flat baking tin and slicing them up with jam, but they were still too big and dry. Has anyone got a clever recipe to make em more like MrKiplings.

Try using sunflower oil instead of Margery?

FridayOLeary · 25/04/2012 13:10

Won't Margery feel left out?

UnChartered · 25/04/2012 13:12

why do you want to make a cake to resemble one you bought then describe as a 'tasteless disappointment' Confused

the best victoria sponge is made with butter not marg(ery)

Nah, Margery is used to be left out, she always been the poor relation, her sister Bunty always gets the votes, she has more Joie de Vivre...

And you do not want to know what my friend calls her Bunty! Stick that in frosting if you dare!

Still think a bit of oil might be the answer. Because it remains liquid, cakes made with oil are always moist.
