I'm doing toad in the hole this week and am VERY fussy with sausages. I always end up looking in the middle and being totally disgusted with what I see. I get the kids and ds butchers choice from tescos as they don't mind, and I usually get cauldron vegetarian ones, but I'm rather tired of these....

Does anyone buy some scrummy ones (preferably from a supermarket) that they could recommend?

Two weeks ago I bought tescos finest chipolatas which crunched more than normal ones (shudder) even dh wouldn't eat them

i can't eat thick sausages

only thin ones

and i buy posh tesco ones in a paper wrapper whilst kids get any old shit

I ravel to a butcher and he makes me 10lbs of special sausages at a time

I freeze them individually

When I serve them to the C/Med children they really love them

It's worth the extra cost

how do you ask them for 'nice sausages' don't they just say theirs are nice??

well I went round 4 or 5 butchers and asked about what goes in them

One had a lovely leaflet about organic pork and additives etc

I tried them and then bought them - but they are expensive tho'

Oh yes, I am a very fussy girl when it comes to my sausages...

suzywong · 10/02/2006 23:22

I am
very

and over here DownUnder I have not discovered a decent sausage, they are all designed for the Barbie, the meat is minced too finely, there are no specks of whie fat in the filling and the casings go rigid. AND over here in Western Australia there is NO free range pork, let alone organic.

Of course there are far worse things to be deprived of, but sinnce you ask I thought I'd tell you.

All the Sainsburys TTD ones are excellent - c 90% meat and AFAIK that doesn't include lips, eyelids etc.

We have a "world famous" sausage shop here and I still prefer Sainsbos. The kids don't but I'm the buyer so ner.

Waitrose free range (or organic free range) chipolate sausages are the yummiest ive tasted

Duchy Originals are ok as well

be sure its from BRITISH porkm, rather than from Euprpe where the pigs spend their whole lives in cages that are only inches bigger than the poor pig itself

really cruel and ILLEGAL in this country, but as its cheeper most supermarkets import this meat for their own brand sausages.

The best I have ever had are from the tiny convenience shop in the village, unlike the Spar they have sausages and other meat from local farm, local made bread that is like home made, and a great selection of homemade style biscuits again another loacl producer.

Try farm shops, or farmers markets.
