Can I pipe glace icing?

I am decorating DD's birthday cake tomorrow night. Have iced it with buttercream, but have to write "Happy Birthday DD" on it. I would prefer not to have to make more buttercream, as the mixer is noisy and may wake one of the kids.... not what I want!

So, can I make a simple icing sugar + water icing, really thick, and pipe it? Nothing fancy, just line-writing

Thanks :)

yes...i sometimes put in a little melted butter too, gives it a little more body.

You can but it's messy and not brilliant. I'd use more buttercream or royal icing.

Thanks :)
Grockle, I would normally do more buttercream, but am really loathe to use the mixer and am too much of a wuss to mix it by hand
Cats -melted butter sounds like a good idea, and no effort. Thanks!
