Aldi or Lidl or budget coffee

I love coffee but with rising prices I'm wondering if anyone knows a good budget coffee. Or is there even such a thing?

I usually buy a Lavazza Illy. It's for a filter.

SIL drinks filter coffee and she always has Lidl. Tea drinker myself though.

Thanx Jilted. I am fed up with budgeting, but hey, that's life atm. Could be worse. But I cannot give up decent coffee. I just can't. I will have a go at the Lidl stuff. Anyone else try any budget coffees?

Do you know anyone who is a member at costco? they will do it in bulk.

Try homebargains too, their stock is irratic but they do have nice tea and coffees in.

I was drinking Duchy originals darjeeling for a while for pennies from there.

I try everything, If I dont like it I dont buy it again. I also take it back for a refund too.

I was fed up of budgeting too but now I shop at Home Bargains and Lidl its not such a problem. Did a full shop in Lidl this week, a biggie and it was £55. Bloody love Lidl Grin.

I've tried Aldi coffee in Australia (so maybe it is different) and it was AWFUL! I'm usually quite an Aldi fan. I've decided that I'm saving a fair amount by making coffee at home anyway and I might as well get the good stuff.

A coffee-loving friend of mine who is also strapped for cash says the Ikea coffee is surprisingly good and compares well with more expensive brands.

fishybits · 12/04/2012 09:02

Waitrose essential mountain blend ground coffee is pretty good.

We live nearly 100 miles from the nearest Waitrose bandit country so when friends come to stay, they are asked to bring a couple of bags of coffee instead of wine Grin

Aldi' cheapest coffee ( in a red packet) is not a good idea. The next one up, in a black packet, is absolutely delicious. We always use it

gazzalw · 12/04/2012 09:06

Hate to say it but I don't think Lidl coffee is either particularly cheap or very nice. We buy Sainsbury's Basics and are quite happy with that....;-)

Know what you mean though about being fed up with budgeting....it makes food shopping a less than enjoyable experience always having to look at the prices ;-(

JiltedJohnsJulie · 12/04/2012 09:08

Eighties think the 2 hours on the motorway for us might add a little to the price though Smile.

MsWeatherwax · 12/04/2012 09:18

Sainsburys Basics is very variable - can be fine, can be AWFUL. I buy it sometimes. What I try to do is wait until the nice stuff is on 3 for 2 (Sainsburys do this every now and again) and buy lots and stick it in the freezer.

starfishmummy · 12/04/2012 09:38

We get the Nescafe brasilia from places like home bargains, b&m bargains, poundstretcher type places when we can.
Otherwise I just stock up when I see offers

Fluffycloudland77 · 12/04/2012 12:47

I was in homebargains today and they had Douwe Egberts (sp?) for 99p a bag. I dont drink coffee so I have no idea if thats a nice brand or not.

DingbatsFur · 12/04/2012 20:11

I second Ikea filter coffee. Delicious and same price as a lot of the basic brands. The tesco value coffee is like cat litter. Foul. You can also be virtuous and add the used grounds to your compost/ flower beds as the slugs hate it.

gazzalw · 13/04/2012 09:00

Think we must all have different tastes because we've had IKEA filter coffee several times and not really liked it....

Douwe Egberts coffee is very good quality and usually costs about £3.50 for a 250 g bag, Fluffycloudland77!

admylin · 13/04/2012 09:15

I've bought Lidl's Fairglobe Highland Instant Coffee before and it was the best instant coffee I've tasted in ages so if they do a filter version it might be worth a try.

lurkingaround · 13/04/2012 10:44

Have bought Aldi coffee, the french roast one. Not v nice.

Definitely am going to buy out whatever shop, wherever (unless it's 2 hours on the motorway!), when I see a bargain in coffee.
And getting friends to bring coffee instead of wine, or even BOTH, is a fantastic idea.

I've bought this one a few times and it was surprisingly good.

littlemissnormal · 15/04/2012 13:24

The lidl Jamaican instant coffee is really nice but they never have ground coffee in our local store so we get the waitrose cafe blend one,
