Just wondering. Since having DS1 we got into the habit of having child free dinner once he was settled. Ever since then we have dinner at 9 ish. The DCs have their's between 5.30 and 6.30.

I'm single, so no partner to worry about, but we eat at around 6-7.
DD needs a snack after school though, she'd be ravenous without it, and no way could I eat my evening meal earlier.

Yama · 11/04/2012 19:19

We all eat at 5.30/6ish depending on work (both work full time) and activities. All together at dining room table. Dd is 6, ds 19 months.

Batch cook at weekends to save time.

Oblomov · 11/04/2012 19:47

We have always eaten at about 6pm. We have always eaten with the kids, since they started weaning, I just sat them down at the dinner table at 6pm and they ate what we ate, but maybe a bit mashed with a fork. Now we might eat a bit later at weekends, say I might make a curry, naan breads and popodams. both ds's like a medium curry aswell, so we might all sit down at 7pm and then kids shortly go to bed. They are 8 and 3.

Hulababy · 11/04/2012 19:52

Most of the time we eat together with 10y dd. have done for as long as I remember, certainly since he started school. We eat at about 6:30pm.

Joolyjoolyjoo · 11/04/2012 19:56

Used to always eat together at the table, 5.30-ish. Now I work later, but someone (my dad/ DH) eats with the kids and the other adults reheat on arrival home.

I like sitting round the table as a family. The kids eat what we eat, and always have. On Saturdays DH and I have takeaway when kids are in bed, though!

BakersDozen · 11/04/2012 19:57

All eat around 6.15pm

mamalovesmojitos · 11/04/2012 19:57

Always together. Around 6pm, maybe a bit later on Friday & Saturdays.

wigglesrock · 11/04/2012 19:58

No, I have 3 - 6,4 and 1. They eat around 5ish, I couldn't eat at that time. Even if dh is home by their dinner time, we still don't eat with them. We all eat together with my parents, sister etc on a Sunday, but my dh works shifts so he would in general very rarely eat with us.

40notTrendy · 11/04/2012 20:02

We all eat together about half 5, three or four times a week. Both DH and I like to cook and try new recipes and that becomes part of our time together, once DS is in bed. And sometimes we just need steak and chips and a bottle of wine in front of the telly Grin.

Astr0naut · 11/04/2012 20:04

Dcs at 5, because bedtime begins at 630 (still baby/toddlers).

We used to eat after, around 7-730. However, as dd (baby) quite often doesn;t settle and I was sick of eating half a meal, I've nagged cajoled dh into making tea for 6 for us.

I'm hoping we can all move together when dcs are older.

All have sunday dinner together though.

GnomeDePlume · 11/04/2012 20:05

Depends on what is for dinner with us. We used to have Sunday lunch and dinner all together but now DH works on a Sunday night we try to have a dinner all together in the week (just had a lovely spag bol!).

DCs are older now (teens) so we are trying to do this more often.

chocoroo · 11/04/2012 20:09

DD mainly eats at nursery during the week so I just do her a sandwich or beans on toast type meal at around 5:45 when we get her home.

DP and I eat later, usually around 8. We bothe work full time so there's no way we could get a real meal on the table before DD's bedtime.

We eat together at weekend's, but again not always dinner.

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 12/04/2012 03:19

I try to eat lunch with DS, but normally have dinner with DH at about 8, DS has his dinner between 5&6

At the weekends we generally eat all our meals together

mathanxiety · 12/04/2012 03:35

Together always. There is just me and 3 DDs left at home year round now but it is nice to just have one serving of dinner and one clean up, plus it's nice to have us all together.

FamiliesShareGerms · 12/04/2012 04:54

Weekdays the kids (6 and 2) eat about 5pm and I'll sit at the table with them and have a snack. DH ad I eat later on, about 8pm.

Weekends we eat breakfast and lunch all together and sometimes let the older one stay up to have dinner with us on a Sat eve after the other has gone to bed (he has two dinners on these days...!)

Piccalilli2 · 12/04/2012 04:55

Kids eat at nursery/childminder during the week, I eat with dh around 8:30. We all eat together at the weekends, usually around 6, unless we have friends staying in which case kids eat separately earlier

chickydoo · 12/04/2012 06:31

Kids eat at 5.30, I work 3 evenings a week, so tend to "pick" on those days. DH heats his up when he comes in around 8.30-9.00pm.
I don't cook twice......once a day is bad enough.

lilbreeze · 12/04/2012 06:39

Monday to Wednesday the dc (2 and 4) eat at nursery. Thursday and Friday they eat at home at 5.30pm and dh and I have ours later. At the weekend we all eat together at 5.30pm.

I would love us all to eat together every night but dh gets home from work too late.

everythingtodo · 12/04/2012 06:50

I used to do two meal times and two meals but found my evenings were spent cooking and cleaning. Now i cook one meal and i eat it with the kids at 5.30. Dh heats his up when he gets in.

It's so much better now and ive got all evening clear as the kitchen is all sorted and tidy by 6ish.

frenchfancy · 12/04/2012 10:43

All eat together at 7-7:30. Kids have snack after school.

We actually eat earlier than most of my (french) friends 8pm or after is normal.

2 nights a week DD1 has dance class so then we eat at 8 but DD3 is sometimes too tired so she will eat earlier so she can go to bed.

otchayaniye · 12/04/2012 10:55

we all eat together every night at around 6pm and often have lunch all together. children are 3.5 and 8 months. we're right poncey and light candles and have lovely music on to make a treat of it.

we're lucky and by and large we enjoy meals (though not the blw cleanup)

bigkidsdidit · 12/04/2012 21:00

No DS eats at 5 and DH and I at 8.30 ish. Whatever DH and I have we freeze a batch cooked portion or a bit in the fridge and DS has it the next day.

TheScottishPlayer · 12/04/2012 21:03

We eat with DS at around 6.30pm - 7pm. We can't eat any earlier than that because we're all lucky to be home by 6.30pm.

PartialToACupOfMilo · 14/04/2012 22:29

Me and dd eat together around 5:30/6ish when dh is at work (most nights). When dh's home (twice a week) he has dinner ready at the same time and we all three eat together. Dd often has a slight variation to her dinner as she's going through a fussy stage, but generally it's something like sauce on the side or a different type of potato - she's 2.4 and I'm hoping she'll grow out of it
