Is it strawberry jam or raspberry jam?
Buttercream or fresh cream?

Or any other recommendations!?

Many thanks!

It's all down to personal taste really. I make mine by spreading strawberry jam on the inner sides of both the 'bottom' and 'lid' cakes, then adding a layer of fresh cream with finely chopped fresh strawberries before topping with the 'lid'. I finish with a dusting of icing sugar.

Most supermarkets have strawberries half price at the minute too!

I use raspberry jam. Don't know if it is the best filling but we like it.

IT'S NOT A SPONGE. ITS NAME IS VICTORIA SANDWICH

IT'S A CREAMED CAKE

a sponge has little or not in it and gets its texture from the way it is mixed.

I know Good Food and Delia call it a sponge but they're very wrong.

Strawberry jam is lovely, and you could also do buttercream.

Strawberry jam and cream, if really special, then cream and frsh strawberrys on top!
