DS' 1st birthday party food

Its DS' 1st birthday party on Sunday and I'm slightly freaking out about food. I'm making a very ambitious (for me anyway) very hungry caterpillar cake, but the guest lists has crept upwards to 22 adults, 2 kids and 4 toddlers.

It's at 2pm so I'm doing some big homemade pizzas, dips and cucumber, peppers, celery and breadsticks (so toddlers have something to snack on), crisps and little sandwiches but what else??

A pasta salad? Pork pies and sausage rolls? Something hot like a chilli? Help please!

A mild chicken curry. Did one as one of 3 hot dishes at my DD's 1st birthday. Hardest thing is the prep and you can do all that days before.

I have a slow cooker so something like that would be good. Is there anything more daytime/spring-like I could cook in there?

I did pizza, chopped vegetables, breadsticks, crisps. pouches of fruit puree, sandwiches and fruit so that every baby would have something to eat. I put out baby spoons too, one of the babys was fed a couple of spoons of fruit puree, my ds ate everything.

OP, enjoy being the mum of a lovely DS on Sunday, and having that celebrated. Your catering sounds fine, if you are concerned about the lack/ amount, make more sandwiches (and keep them back) Being at 2pm, in all probability people would not be looking for a substanial meal? After that, taking an interest in your guests is the best ingredient. Have a lovely day.

Mine was last Saturday- so hectic, but really worth it had a lovely weekend! Everything you said sounds fab, I cut up lots of little bits of fruit as well, babies all loved it, also did cheese on toast in strips which went down great with the little ones

Thanks for all your help! Feeling better about food after picking up more bits today (what doesn't get eaten will be taken into work on Monday!). Also am pleased to report the hungry caterpillar cake is a success! Feeling very proud and like a grown up now!Grin

We did a platter of cold meats and some nice bread amongst other stuff. It was the first to go.
