Drinking Water

My 5mo DS is constipated at the mo and poor little mite is getting very upset.

He's had two doses of prunes - but they don't seem to be helping.
I think he needs water to help him go. He must be dehydrated - he's a little niagra falls of dribble. Trouble is, I can't get him to take any and I've made matters worse by trying too hard to get him to drink. He now has the big fear of the water bottle.

Any ideas?? DH accidently dunked him in the bath last night but I think that's a bit drastic!

apple juice? always does the trick

What like mixed in with his water?
I've tried a tea spoon of orange juice in water and he wasn't so impressed with that - maybe he'd prefer apple.

I remember reading somewhere that if you drink water on its own it all gets sent to the kidneys and therefore doesn't help constipation. Needs juice or something in it for it to get to the bowels. Anyone know if thats true?

Anyway, irrelevant if he won't drink water. DD likes apple juice in her water, not so keen on orange. I mix it so its about 10% juice. Well, I used to. If I put that little in now she hands it back and says "juice?".

Can he drink from a beaker if you hold it? And have you tried warming it up to whatever temperature he has milk at?

At this age DD used to go once every 3 or 4 days and the 4th day was never fun! Sorts itself out once they're weaned...

A friend swears by rubbing a bit of KY jelly on their anus... she's done it with of her 4 when needed.
