I have found these knives on groupon at 50% off so for a set of 5 will cost £22 in total with postage. Not sure if that is a good deal or not as I have never heard of these knives...

My knives are so rubbish I really need a decent set but i dont want to pay a fortune.

Just wondering what knives everyone else is using and general prices.

i have had knives from them for years. as long as you dont pay full price they are brilliant. had a pizza stone for 2 quid as well

I spent about £50 on what I thought was a good cooks knife from a naice kitchen shop and it is utterly shit and needs sharpening a lot. It's not supposed to go in the dishwasher either so I am forever handwashing the bastard too.

I also get sets of 4 or 5 knives from Ikea for under a tenner that are absolutely fine. They aren't the most durable so need replacing maybe every 5 years but considering they cost buttons and can go in the dishwasher I use them in preference to the high maintenace expensive piece of crap knife, which I have now pretty much given up on - I will probably throw it away once I can be arsed to wrap it up properly to go in the bin.

I use IKEA's ceramic knives. Don't know if they are not fashionable anymore but apart from a serrated metal bread knife I use no other knives as frequently as the ceramic ones.

The thing with any metal knife is that you should not put it in the dishwasher and clean and dry it immediately after each use apart from sharpening it regularly and in the correct fashion. That's just a little too much maintenance for me.

summerintherosegarden, global is rubbish.
I personally used and sharpened a nakiri from them... Any tojiro will be (probably) cheaper, made of better steel (vg-10 at least) and easier to sharpen (cos the global was never sharp enough for me) plus it will retain the edge much better (depending on the steel).
I WIL NEVER EVER EVER EVER buy a global knife, i own 3 tojiros, 2 of them are vg-10, the third one is white #2, a fujiwara teruyasu white#1 and i recently bought a moritaka AS that costs the same than a normal global. I recommend anyone to search in the internet for different makers, you never know what you can find.
