River Cottage roast tomato sauce

Is it worth cooking it?

I've got the Veg Everyday book and several of the recipes use it, but it seems like a lot of tomatoes (and money) and a lot of trouble for a tomato sauce.

Does anyone bother using it every time, or do you just cheat and use a couple of tins of tomatoes and some herbs?

It strikes me as the kind of thing you would do if you have a Aga and a glut of homegrown tomatoes.
I just do tinned. If I ever grow my own toms successfully enough to have too many I will do the roasted one, I am sure it will taste nicer.

That's what I thought.

I'm sure it tastes much better, but you need 1.5-2kg of tomatoes for 500ml of sauce - unless you're growing them it's quite an expense!

Tinned it is - thanks :)
