.... and I have the most terrible wind Blush

I had read that it happened, but didn't expect it to be this bad!

Luckily it has been a beautiful day, so we have spent the afternoon in the garden Grin

Never again!

My DH is banned. Shame as they are beautiful plants when they flower and we have a glut every year. Supposedly there is a spice/herb used in eastern cooking that decreases the 'side effects'.

I can't eat them either as b/feeding and DS takes after his father...

Delia has a lovely recipe for artichoke and carrot soup - the carrots dilute the unwanted effects of the artichoke quite a bit, but you still get that lovely nutty artichokey flavour...

rubyslippers · 23/02/2012 19:29

I have made that soup and it's divine

However, the after effects were the same

Squeegle · 23/02/2012 19:29

Yes, that is a fab recipe - almost my favourite - and what's more I have never noticed any ill effectsGrin

Apparently, adding celery to them while cooking will reduce/remove the anti-social side effects.

Last time dh and I had them, we spent the whole of the afternoon and evening being doubled up with noisy painful farts......

.....he now refuses to eat them.

Funny, the first time we had them, they didn't do that to us. Presumably the effect can vary.

Cartoonjane · 25/02/2012 17:17

They're not called fartichokes for nothing,

HuevosRancheros · 25/02/2012 19:38

I hate celery.

Potentially, I could eat celery-flavoured artichokes and still be in pain.

No thanks! :)

I know, I was warned too, but really couldn't imagine the extent of the windyness. I can honestly say baked beans make very little difference to me, but jerusalem artichokes....and it's the most painful, noisiest wind too!
