I have read a few recipes but none that screams "eat me" so far. Can you inspire me with a favourite of yours? Can be veggie or not. Thanks!

do you mean 'Pearl' Barley?

metalelephant · 23/02/2012 17:02

Haha yes I do! Though I could argue that pear barley is the new rage, but I won't.

I put it in soups and casseroles . It seems to be particularly nice in slow cooked lamb

metalelephant · 23/02/2012 17:04

That sounds nice Gigondas, do you add it right at the beginning or later on?

Add it at beginning and let it cook away- you do need more water/stock than usual as it soaks it up . I don't have Much of a recipe as its a Question of making a casserole with whatever I have to hand.

The pearl barley goes nice and mushy so has real comfort food appeal.

That sounds good, especially as I can adapt my own stews to it. Cheers G!

I put it in veg stew type things,it does make a chunky soup or stew much more warming and filling.

ooh, there was an ace thread about this a while back - called something like 'pearl fucking barley' iirc.

had loads of suggestions on it.

will have a hunt, hang on.

CiderwithBuda · 23/02/2012 17:15

I love pearl barley. It's nice in risotto as well as stew type things.

marvinthemartian · 23/02/2012 17:16

this would appear to be the thread (with a namechange as ti was put into classics), but I am Confused as am sure i was on it (under a previous name), yet don't show up at all...

will keep searching.

Thanks hellymelly and ciderwithbuda, it certainly seems that stews are the way to go.

Marvinthemartian, the thread you linked is a treat, cheers!
