Help! Which formula to give baby in America?

Hi! I wonder if any well-travelled people out there can help me? I'm taking dd to America at Christmas to visit her grandparents. I do not want to take any formula with me - we're taking enough already! Can anyone recommend a follow-on milk for dd? She is currently drinking SMA Progress, which is NOT available in the States. Thanks for your help.

PS: Not overly enthusiastic about Nestle products!

Amymum, no specific advice, but my friend lives in the States and I will ask her. However, I do know that their advice is completely different in the States, you know how we're told to choose a brand and stick to it so long as you have no problems, in the States they just chop and change according to what is on special offer in the supermarket that week (apparently with no ill effects).

Amymum... you are going to the US not a third world country... you will find something to suit you once you get there. I would not worry too much about this. How old is DD ?

Pupuce, dd is 9 months (10 by time we travel). The only reason I'm worrying is because she is generally fussy about what she drinks. She took some adjusting to SMA Progress from Gold. I'm really just being selfish & thinking of my sanity! Plus mother-in-law is doing a load of shopping for us before we arrive.

You might suggest that MIL actually give her what ever she has chosen to buy... because I'll bet you DD won't dare put up a fuss... (of course you can't be around at that moment otherwise it won't work)... Just a thought !
What about looking at US websites ???

Done that already - usual mix of "Gee isn't it great!" and "Never buy this product". I actually read a review of a formula which was brown & bubbly and stained clothes really badly! Maybe I trust some Mumsnetter to come up with a brilliant idea!

Sorry if I've offended any Americans out there - not intentional.

Amymum - no advice on brands of formula, but, if you could possibly squeeze in enough Progress to last you the trip, then you would have all that extra space for bringing back lots of cheap American goodies!

(Just a thought...)

If your daughter will be 10 months old, how often does she get that bottle ? And how long are you going for ?
It is worth asking you GP if for a short time you can replace the formula with full fat milk.
