My grandma took this recipe to the grave with her way back in 1980. My mum has never managed to replicate it. It involved lining a pudding basin which had been generously buttered and sugared ,with shortcrust pastry. Un cooked apples were then piled in and pastry lid sealed them in. It was cooked in the oven and turned out on to a plate. The result was amazing. Melt in the mouth, buttery and toffee tasting pastry and apples.
Has anyone else cooked, experienced a similar pudding cooked by their grandma ?
The recipe wasn't in any book and she never wrote it down.

This sounds similar.

My mum makes this which is yummy but I don't think it's what you are looking for as it has additional ingredients to the apples

My grandmother made a brilliant apple pie that also is a bit of a mystery as she never wrote it down but I remember her preparing it adding evaporated milk. There are a few recipes that use evaporated and also some that use condensed milk... Could that be what gave the toffee flavour?
