Stuffed prunes?

My MIL, in a fit of MIL-ness, gave me a box of stuffed agen prunes for Xmas. What are they for? What can I do with them? (other than throw them out, which I am debating)

I tried eating one, and I do like prunes, but not that much, and anyway, they're quite sweet. So they're not for eating ...

What are they stuffed with?

NotQuiteCockney · 25/01/2006 07:12

More prunes, I think. Will check. I thought it would be cream or something, but it wasn't.

Yes, they're stuffed with pureed prune.

Because, you know, prune is such a subtle flavour.

They're from France, they're in a wooden box, they must have cost a bomb. Do people just eat them?

Wrap them in smoked bacon....serve hot, devils on horseback

NotQuiteCockney · 25/01/2006 07:16

I don't think I've ever voluntarily eaten a prunes + bacon combination ... these have added sugar, too, so they're really sweet ... would they still work?

they are just for eating like that, ah, le pruneau d'Agen, delicieux!!!!

NotQuiteCockney · 25/01/2006 09:59

Vraiement?

cooked a lovely tagine with prunes in the other day..diced lamb, lots of treacle, honey, cinnamon, ginger powder, those ready cooked vacuum packed chestnuts and water. nigella i think. we had it with couscous.

Frenchgirl · 25/01/2006 10:12

bundy that sounds delicious, I love tagine!
You can also use prunes in Cinnamon Beef stew, will find the recipe

Frenchgirl · 25/01/2006 10:13

here it is
made it for Xmas eve and it was fab

bundy · 25/01/2006 10:21

frenchgirl, it was, it turns very dark almost inky with all the treacle and you put the prunes/chestnuts in near the end but they still go mushy quite a bit. mmmmmmmmm

bundy · 25/01/2006 10:22

gosh that looks yummy too i love stews this time of year

NotQuiteCockney · 25/01/2006 10:46

I love those stuffed prune things. Vistited MIL just after christmas - she'd been given some and didn't like them and I scarfed so many she gave me the rest to take home. Strange inversion, eh?

NotQuiteCockney · 25/01/2006 19:22

I'll happily post the box to anyone who wants them. Really. If someone else loves them, they should have them.

It's an opened box, I think I ate two. Nobody has pawed the other ones.
