..... but I have had a bunch (?) delivered in my veg box.

Just tried eating some raw, in case my tastes have matured, but they have not. Still bleurggh.

Anyone got any great recipes that makes it taste nice?

If not, I shall I just give it to my in-laws, who like it for some reason Confused Grin

Chop up a stick of celery, an onion and a small carrot, fry until soft then use to make bolognaise (and lots of other things). I really don't like raw celery but find this really adds a good depth of flavour to food.

A little bit in stew or Spag Bol is great, but what do you do with the rest of the bunch???

NormanTheForeman · 13/02/2012 22:30

IMO if you add celery to a bolognaise, it just makes the bolognaise taste of celery, which is disgusting.............

Lots of bloody marys? Grin

You are right OP food of the devil. Disgusting. Get rid. End of!! Wink

Thank you all :)

You have now dissuaded me from adding it to bolognese - I remember picking it out of the one my mum used to make

Will try the cheese and garlic though, may be pleasantly surprised Wink

In-laws used to have guinea pigs, but they have sadly gone to the great hutch in the sky now, otherwise that would have been my first thought

Love Ottolenghi, but reckon you'd have to at least like/accept celery to like a celery-based pasta dish......

Quite keen on stripe xylem!

I hate the taste of raw celery (or slightly undercooked celery) it is absolutely minging.

However, I really really like braised celery with carrots - maybe try that? Chop the celery into roughly 1cm sections, peel and chop about one medium carrot per medium stick of celery. Melt a small nob of butter in a saucepan and soften the veg in it for 5 minutes, then pour in enough vegetable stock to cover, put the lid on, and simmer gently for about 20 minutes or till tender. Drain and serve.

I think it's really really nice, you should try it.

Take comfort in the fact that it has minus calories when eaten raw as it takes more calories to digest than you get from it. Unfortuantely, this does not work when smothered in my preferred serving suggestion - Boursin (black pepper).

vixsatis · 14/02/2012 11:12

HORRIBLE RAW

But when cooked into oblivion in stews etc. it does help the flavour along. Stick it in the freezer and use it a stick at a time in slow cooked tuff or to make stock

AmberLeaf · 14/02/2012 13:54

Its nice when you have a cold [so cant smell/taste] dipped in salad cream.

Other than that yuks.

Mrsrobertduvall · 14/02/2012 13:56

I love it!!! Dipped in salad cream and lots of salt...lovely. Had some for lunch!!
