I'm a chef and I'm looking to experiment at home with a bit of molecular gastronomy!
One of the key ingredients is agar agar, Mr Heston of Blumenthal says you can buy it in most supermarkets now, but I've searched long and hard and can't find it anywhere, however it could just be that my local supermarkets are a bit backward.
I'd like to know if any of you guys have spotted it, or even better have any tips on cool things to do with it

They sell it in our local one - although we live in an area with quite a large Korean population who I think use it more commonly. It's with the yeasts if I remember rightly.

For recipes, never actually used it myself, but for other hydrocolloids, [[

I've been watching that series of Heston's and I always think- that looks bloody amazing but my life is too short to triple cook chips. For example.

I might do the chips for a dinner party, but I'd never do his rediculously overcomplicated mash. Mash is mash.

I bought some "vegetarian gel" from Asda which is agar in order to make Heston's chicken pie for my DP tonight - I'll let you know how it goes!
