coffee essence

I have none, can i use strong coffee. ? its for a coffee and walnut cake

Yes strong coffee is just as good. It does have to be very strong though, stronger than you'd drink.

If the recipe asks for 1 tsp of coffee essence, I'd dissolve about half a tsp of instant coffee in 1 tsp of boiling water.
