Popcorn toppings - anyone know how to do them?

DH loves popcorn and we've just discovered how easy it is to cook straight from the corn (rather than buying the stupidly expensive Butterkist bags), but we have no idea how to do the toppings. We found a recipe for toffee, but that was too sickly - anyone know how to do just a sort of sweet topping like the ones in the cinema?

Maple syrup or icing sugar is nice

Some people just mix maltesers into their popcorn, to get the sweetness (no idea if this is nice, just observed it in the cinema).

When I was a child my mam used to put sugar on top and give it a good shake to get it all the way through.

If you melt a few marshmallows in butter that can be nice on popcorn

you need a good heavy pan and nerves of steel for this, but it works!

you need enough demerara to cover the bottom of a pan...not thickly! Add a knob of butter, also enough to cover the pan when melted.

heat up high and stir gently until the sugar melts into the butter....it may looks a little separated but that just means it needs to melt a little more

as soon as it is smooth, like a runny toffee sauce, remove pan from the heat and put the popcorn back in and stir until popcorn is all covered

you can add in a good shake of cinnamon right at the start if you wish.

do not attempt this in a flimsy pan!

Nigella one is fantastic - really delicious!

2tbsp olive oil, 50g butter, 2 tsp ground cumin, 2 tsp ground paprika, 4 tsp table salt, 4 tsp caster sugar. Melt it all in a pan. Pour over popcorn. Really delicious.

I leave out the salt if I buy those salted popcorn microwave things.

Try it... It really is yummy!

I used to have a recipe that required the mixture to be poured over popped corn then baked for about 10 mins. Was amazing. You could google for that method.
