Any decent shop bought pizzas out there?

I often make them, but for one reason and another I need to get my hands on some ready made pizzas that are really good, suitable for grown ups.

Any tips please, as from (distant) memory shop bought pizzas are often disappointing....

Thanks!

We love the Waitrose ones, unfortunately the expensive type. It was an aubergine one and a mushroom one we had last time, about 4 quid each but luvverly. Also, Asda used to do a lovely veggie one that was frozen. We're not veggie but pizza meat makes my stomach turn a bit.

Dr Oetker spinach pizza gets my vote. Or the plain mozzarella one.

orienteerer · 06/02/2012 20:28

Tend to agree that Co-Op ones are also good (but not as good at Pizza Express)

storminabuttercup · 06/02/2012 21:05

I like the dr oetker ones

And the asda cyo ones but nothing beats hm IMO!

I think you will still find ready made pizzas disappointing. I make my own pizzas and it has put me off all the shop bought pizzas I used to like - even Waitrose! Can you buy a basic one and top it yourself? It won't solve the problem with biscuit like base but you'll be half way there.

Another vote for Dr Oetker. (German pizza comes top Shock)

I also like Sainsburys chicken and spinach thin pizza.

Mermaidspam · 06/02/2012 22:56

M&S do a Chicken Caesar one that is lovely.

AnEcumenicalMatter · 06/02/2012 23:10

Another vote for Co-op premium range.

LakeFlyPie · 06/02/2012 23:13

Dr Oetker is the winner in this house, I buy margherita and add chorizo, roasted peppers etc.

Also rate the Aldi ones, not sure what they're called but come 3 in a box, super cheap and get the same treatment as the Dr O ones.

ronx · 06/02/2012 23:15

I vote for Waitrose feta and caramelised onion ones, too.

DramaInPyjamas · 06/02/2012 23:16

Asda Extra Special do a really nice ham and mushroom with marscapone

the nicest shop bought one ive ever had is the waitrose italian baked 12" pizzas.....they are truly yummy. better than pizza express ones. they are devine!

StealthPolarBear · 06/02/2012 23:18

the Dr Oetker ones used ot be nice but the last time I tried them they were really salty. I love salt, but I couldn't manage it.

TheMoistWorldOfSeptimusQuench · 06/02/2012 23:19

It would never have crossed my mind to buy a Dr Oetker pizza before reading this thread, but you lot have - once again - inspired me.

Sainsbury's chicken, pesto and roast pepers is yummy and much better than the Pizza Express equivilant IMO.

ThatVikRinA22 · 06/02/2012 23:33

....and the waitrose ones actually crisp up - the bottom is crispy not soggy - they are fab.

FizzyLaces · 06/02/2012 23:37

This is the best pizza in the universe. I am not kidding :D

Sarahplane · 07/02/2012 00:53

Pizza express and aldi surprisingly.

bacon · 08/02/2012 09:45

Sainbos TTD are fab also agree that the co-op special ones are excellent too. Thin crust and quality toppings.

OH is never impressed who I serve pizza, not a proper meal in his opinon, very fatty and high in carbs - suppose he is right.

valiumredhead · 08/02/2012 11:35

Pizza Express, when they are on offer!

AnonymousBird · 08/02/2012 11:59

Wow, what an incredible response! Sorry, not been here to keep tabs on all these - my need for the pizzas now postponed due to illness, but I will be taking a very good look at your recommendations, as I'll need them next week!

Many thanks.

The Lidl fresh ones are very nice. Be careful not to overcook - they can go hard very quickly if in the oven a minute too long.

sobenobu · 10/02/2012 20:26

Aldi frozen ones are my new fave. Three in a box for £2.79.

M&S stone-baked margharitas are second, then Pizza Express third.
