A Bit of Romance

So DH and I have sometimes gone out for a meal on Valentines, but we have young kids, it's mid week, can't help feeling a bit ripped off by it all, so we decided to make something nice at home (not that we don't cook nice food at home on any other day of the year Smile). What's your most romantic three course menu? I need inspiration!

The most romantic thing we did was for our anniversary when DD was a baby. We decided on four courses, with each of responsible for two, which we chose and cooked. We took the whole day to prepare and cook the meal, taking turns to look after DD while the other prepared their courses.

Menu (I should mention we are foodie pigs Blush):

Starter: Black pudding and foie gras with apple cider reduction (from Andrew Pern's book)
Fish: Soused halibut with dill vodka shots (also Andrew Pern's book)
Main: Guinea fowl with pineau des Charentes sauce and guinea fowl ravioli (my own creation )
Pudding: Dark chocolate cheesecake with raspberrry coulis and creme fraiche

It was lovely!

If you're not such a massive foodie, how about something simple but special like steak?

Then for pudding - just to lower the tone - for Valentines day I often make my husband a giant heart-shaped chocolate brownie (make a pan of brownies then use a big heart-shaped cutter).

Best result was when I marbled them with philadelphia and pink food colouring: nothing says class and true love like pink food colouring and heart-shaped things!

OMG Fanny! I thought I was a competent cook, but wow, you and your other half are impressive. Sadly my husband is not so talented in the kitchen and it's my kitchen anyway and he's not allowed in it. Love the idea of the brownie's Zin.

Yes, it is one area where we are a bit OTT. Blush

To balance it out, it was MrP's birthday a couple of weeks ago and I made steak, oven chips, and salad. We are not always as mental as the above post suggests!Grin
