Lentils ... how do I know when they're cooked?????

Recipe says 20 mins but they've been on slightly longer and still have a 'bite' ... should they be total mush (it's a dahl) . Thanks

yes i would cook them till they are completely soft.

red or green? If its red they go mushy and green take a bit longer but keep their shape.

Red ... still a bit crunchy - well, not soft. Also, the recipe calls for me to make a baghar ... sunflower oil, cumin seeds, coriander & cayenne. Don't have sunflower oil ... toss up between vegetable & olive - any advice? Thanks again!

Vegetable oil and cook lentils till soft (add more water if neccessary)

Thanks all ... used the veggie oil and added loads more coconut milk than the recipe said and it wasn't too bad at all ... the children ate it which was a miracle esp where DS1 is concerned .
