I want to read a decent well-researched book about food and have a shortlist. Has anyone read any of these? Please help me choose. I have an Amazon gift voucher burning a hole in my pocket!

  1. Bad Food Britain - Joanna Blythman
  2. Fast Food Nation - Eric Schlosser
  3. Eat Your Heart Out - Felicity Lawrence
  4. Stuffed and Starved - Raj Patel
  5. Waste - Tristram Stuart
  6. In defence of Food - Michael Pollan

Or something else? (I have read, and enjoyed, 'Shopped')
Thanks!

I enjoyed Fast Food Nation and I'd like to read Stuffed and Starved.

Not read any of yours but would like to suggest Hungry Planet: What the World Eats by Faith D'Aluisio. It's a great photo-chronicle that shows you what people around the world spend on food on a typical week.

Oxford Companion to Food by Alan Davidson. He spent 20 years writing this. Opinionated, obsessive, wonderful, human. The single best food book I have got in the last decade.

Jeffrey Steingarten - It must have been something I ate. A great read.
