It's a cheap one from Asda and doesnt have a recipe book but for £15 I'm not arguing. I looked on the recipe sites and just got confused.

So far I've put in it;

300g cubed braising steak
Peas
Cabbage
Parsnip
Thyme
Might put an onion in too (just to live dangerously)

I plan to put a little liquid in the bottom tomorrow morning before work and then leave it on low for tomorrows dinner (served with mash potatoes).

Am I doing it right? the veg is frozen (fresh goes off in this house) so there will be a little water in there tomorrow from the defrosting but is it just a little water or half a pint? It's a 3L one if that helps.

Could I, in future, put cubed potatoes in if I blanch them? or will they go brown anyway? Confused

Thank you.

i only ever use a tin of soup and the fill the tin up twice i like using oxtail when i cook with beef, or just veg soup. the whole family love it. enjoy!

Sounds fine with just a little water. You'll be amazed at how much liquid comes out of the meat and the veg. Not sure about spuds going brown though. Does it matter? I've definitely put potatoes in a slow cooker stew before and it was fine, but not sure if they discoloured or no.

It doesnt matter for me so much but DH wouldnt eat it if the spuds went brown.

He should have grown up in my house, you ate it or went without.
