Sides for lasagne

Hi all,

First time using the food board! Glad I found it, desperately trying to improve my kitchen skills and recipe repertoire.

I'm making a big lasagne at the weekend for a family lunch, and I was thinking of doing a couple of salads to go with it. Any ideas for things that might go? I'm a bit stumped.

Thanks!

Greens beans, just blanched and still crunchy in a balsamic vinaigrette with hazelnuts and shaved parmiggiano

Spinach salad with pear, raisins and gorgonzola

Chargrilled peppers tossed in olive oil, lemon juice, garlic and parsley

Or simply a big salad with a garlic mustard vinaigrette, a slab of soft cheese and crusty bread

Salad and garlic bread - perfect! :o

Chips

Cherry toms with chopped mozzarella and fresh basil
Sweetcorn and green peppers
Grated carrot
Olives
Greed stuff

Def garlic bread. I am addicted to this!

Agree with salad and garlic bread. There are lots of flavours in lasagne so you need something plain and simple to match.

Lasagne and salad is my favourite for guests as it is always nice (even if its different to how it turned out before) and you just pop it in the oven and toss the salad so you can spend more time with your guests.

lovely fresh italian salad mmmmmmmmmmmm and homemade wedges are always nice with lasagna too :)

Peas. My Italian friend always serves lasagne with a big dish of buttered peas. Works for me.

Always have it with a big salad and garlic bread, you don't need anything else.

NoWuckingFurries · 12/01/2012 12:24

Damn! I really want lasagne now with salad garlic bread and chips

OP, your lunch sounds fantastic.

Thanks for all the replies!

I think those of you that said garlic bread are right, so I'll get a couple of ciabattas in. There'll be a couple of smallish kids there, so good to have something for them to just nibble on if they're not quite up to knife and fork usage! The green bean idea looks pretty lovely too, so maybe I'll try that one. I love making things like lasagne for big groups, it's so easy and pretty much done before the guests arrive, leaves more time for wine drinking/pleasant conversation.

And LivingDead, I'm already planning to have the leftovers with chips the next night.....
