Pre-preparing Fish Pie?

Flyingoutofcontrol · 10/01/2012 17:24

I want to make a fish pie (fish, smoked fish and a few prawns). I know how to make the pie, and I normally make it from scratch and stick it in the oven just before we need to eat it IYSWIM.

However, DS is getting increasingly clingy and grumpy in the afternoons, whereas in the morning he is much more amenable.

Is there anyway to pre make the pie or will I poison us? I'm thinking about making it at 10ish letting it cool in the dish with the mashed potatoes on top. It would then be reheated in the oven at 7pm for about half an hour until hot all the way through.

Can I do this?

Oh and I'd put it in the fridge once cold.

TIA

I would do this, and have done in the past.

If it's reheated thoroughly then it will be fine.

Even with the prawns?

I live in mortal terror of food poisoning having had camphylobacter a few years ago Envy

I've done it. Make sure the prawns and fish are cooked when you prep it, then make sure the centre of the re-heated pie reaches 70 degrees and it will be fine.

I think it will be fine. I did this over xmas - did all the preparation up to when you would normally put it in the oven, then froze it.

defrosted in fridge overnight the day before we were going to eat it for dinner. Then cooked as normal.

Tasted fine and no-one got poisoned.
