Can it be done in the slow cooker? If so how long does it take please

ye. Depends on the size of the ham, but 8 hours on low should do it.

I did one on New Years Day - went on at 9am and we ate it at 6ish.
It was a massive one, fed 6 adults and 4 pre-schoolers (we had veg and spuds as well).
