chewy chocolate crispy cakes

I have never been able to make crispy cakes that are chewy. My DD's keep asking for them. I tried it with Mars Bars yesterday and the chocolate seized and they were foul.
I need a fool-proof recipe since I'm clearly an idiot. Thanks!

My friends are divine, she goes with a standard recipe and adds a tbsp of golden syrup

Golden syrup here too! I make them with my charges (nanny) and they love them. Gives them a extra sweet taste and they stick together better too. Smile

I make my non chocolate ones with butter and marshmallows melted first and then bung in krispies. I reckon you could add melted choc/cocoa powder and they would be fine. Just don't overheat.

nigel slater ones ae fab and use golden syrup, butter, best quality choc and cornflakes

annabel karmels recipe with mars bars is delicious and I've never had a problem with it. Melt the mars bars in the microwave for 30 secs a time then stir with a spoon in between, it needs a little longer than ordinary chocolate for the nougat to melt and it does need a quick beat to incorporate the nougat and caramel into the chocolate nicely.

I use golden syrup but a friend uses mars bars and hers are absolutely gorgeous.

it's in there as 'rice krispies on mars' and I added my variation as a comment. The main thing is to keep the faith when it looks all curdled and revolting - keep stirring and you will eventually reach gorgeous gloopiness
