White vinegar for a cake??

Hi all,

I want to make this recipe as I am currently egg-free and dairy-free while BF my allergic DS but I went to Sainsburys for some white vinegar and they didn't have any - they had distilled malt vinegar which was clear and they had white wine vinegar. I'm assuming it's more common in the US as the recipe is American - does anyone know exactly what is white vinegar and where I might get it (or what I can substitute for it?).

TIA

I've used distilled malt vinegar in recipes like that and it was fine. You can also get Apple cider vinegar, most of the vegan recipes I have use that rather than white vinegar. I bought mine in Asda but I guess Sainsbury's may have it too. If I remember correctly it was in the olive oil section rather than with the vinegar.
