Fattening food ideas please - dd1 is skeletal

she eats rather too healthily - doesn't like dairy (esp butter), would live on nuts seeds and fruit if she could. Oh and sweets as she has a sweet tooth. She eats miniscule portions and hates mashed potato. She is 6, has just been ill, but seems OK now (tired and weepy though). Yesterday she ate: 3 spoonfuls of branflakes with no milk, 1 spoonful of porridge
1 quarter of a sandwich (peanut butter)
1 carrot stick
4 spoonfuls of couscous and chickpeas and one 1cm square piece of lamb

thats IT.

Her spine and ribs stick out and her legs are like sticks.

Any suggestions of good nourishing fattening food?

Enid, hi, i have a very thin ds, hv and i agree if child is gaining weight or showing signs of growth and is happy, dont worry too much. But i know thats hard, so heres what i do . Cook everything in butter eg veggies, curry, potatoes, pasta once cooked. Add full fat milk to receipes when poss ( i,use to put it in curries too)Add coconut milk and cheese to dishes, obviously where poss. All snacks should be full fat. I use to give him things like cheese, dates, banana, avocado. Also oat cakes can be fairly fattening depending on make. Hope this helps.

You know, I think I'd recommend the same things as for a child who was only eating fatty foods and refusing healthy stuff. Get her involved in food prep! Get her to help you make a cake or whatever, so she enjoys eating it more.

I'm assuming, of course, that her refusal to eat fatty stuff is because she doesn't like it, not because she has picked up any silly ideas about fat etc.

does she like nutella/the green n black's version of chocnut spread? dd2 calls it patella

we have spent most of the afternoon in kitchen

she was begging for snacks when she got in but I made her wait for tea - she then ate ALL her spaghetti (wasnt much there but it was smothered in olive oil ) and one bite of meatball - going to have to get a good veggy cookbook I think. She even had a pinch of grated cheddar and a slice of bread. She is now tucking into ice cream and is very cheerful. She wants nuts and fruit for afterwards and I am in the middle of making pancakes for tomorrow morning so I expect she'll have one of those hot off the pan.

so a much better day - hope she can keep it up!

half a sandwich and three cherries today for lunch

Enid · 12/01/2006 17:06

nqc she has always been like this about fat/dairy

obviously in my darker moments i am convinced she has eating disorder but she doesnt seem to have any real issues apart from having strong likes and dislikes. she has never mentioned anything about fat and we never discuss dieting (mainly cos I never really diet so I doubt its that. Really hope not anyway.

I'm sure if it was that, you'd know.

She does sound healthy, really. But I totally understand why you struggle.
