Hi mumsnet. Don't laugh - this is my level of cooking! i've got some friends coming for lunch in the few days after christmas so wanted to do something easy and not very christmassy by then. there's quite a few fussy under 5s so considered doing self service 'wraps' which my kids like making their own, mainly with cheese and ham. i usually do salsa, soured cream and a mix of chicken, onions and peppers as well but wondered if anyone knew of any other fillings i could give as an option?

I generally do similar to you, chicken with either onions and peppers or with salad etc. Have you ever made quesadilla? They are very easy, quick and always go down well when I serve them! I usually serve with guacamole and side salad. The filling is usually cheese, chilli, spring onion and coriander. I omit the chilli and add ham for the children.

My DC like crispy chicken strips (coated in egg and breadcrumbs, then baked).

I love making wraps. Don't know how child friendly these are, but I do tuna, sweetcorn, mayonnaise or egg maynnaise or smoked salmon or houmous (with salady bits) or cooked chicken pieces with mayonnaise or pesto stirred through.

What does go down well with adults (impressive but no effort being my speciality!) is putting a whole load of things on a big plate/chopping board that you have chopped up, so people just pick their own. I would suggest grated carrot, sweetcorn, rolls of ham, cheese, chopped cucumber and tomatoes and peppers.

Chili is also good in wraps, though very messy!

Hummous and falafel also great and easily bought, esp with a mint and yoghurt dip.

Mmm I love crispy chicken strips aswell satsuma! I like mushrooms and peppers and mayo in mine, with some crunchy salad aswell. Wraps are so easy though, you can put just about anything in them

I like roasted aubergine with chilli, mint and yogurt dressing. Not very self service though Xmas Grin

Another one which is yummy but not self-service is scrambled egg, mushrooms and grated cheese.

Ooooh, Cointreau. That sounds lovely. Also with refried beans, they used to do a great breakfast wrap at a veggie cafe where we used to live, I miss them! (Am hungry now, off to raid the kitchen for wraps/mince pies)

we do the traditional spicy chicken with guacamole and sour cream but also put rice in and grated cheese. Chilli and rice works well too.

I brush my tortilla wraps with oil and mould them around a wire sieve then ovenbake until they begin to brown. On removing from the oven and cooling they form crispy baskets which look very impressive and make a meal out of a simple salad.

to your usual, you could also add fresh diced tomatoes, fresh chopped onions, beans (refried or just out of a can and heated- we like black beans), and rice.
