hi

i'm making this recipe today and it says to boil the mushrooms then fry them. this sounds really odd to me. has anyone done this before? or shall i just fry them and ignore the boiling thing?

also how much puff pastry do you think i need? helpfully the ingredients say 2 puff pastry sheets. but when i look at the pic and the list of ingredients it seems to me that 1 pack of 500g puff pastry won't be enough- should i use two??

thanks anyone :)

Looks yum. I personally wouldn't boil them but would fry them in lots of butter. Mushrooms absorb water very very easily so I don't even wash them, but rub them with a damp bit of kitchen paper. Someone cleverer might come along with a good reason to boil them though.

As far as the pastry is concerned I can't help. I only ever use one sheet for pies as I just do lids, I don't do a base. I figure that if I do just lids then I can get away with eating them twice as often :)

I have never heard of boiling mushrooms. Surely they would lose all of their flavour?

Just fry them in butter.

thank you for reassuring me that i was right! i will just fry them then.:) petiteraleuse i like the idea of just a lid- seems to make sense actually with this pie to avoid the filling making the base go soggy. thanks!
